THE 24TH WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE - 2019, WEST VIRGINIA, U.S.A.

22 JULY 2019 - 2 AUGUST 2019, THE SUMMIT BECHTEL RESERVE

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest outdoor educational event organized by the Scout Movement, gathering as many as 50,000 Scouts and leaders every four years from 170 National Scout Organizations. The Scouts, ages 14 through 17, male and female, will travel from as many as 200 countries and territories to attend the Jamboree. A staff of more than 9000 volunteers will deliver a life-changing experience to the Scouts.

The purpose of the 24th World Scout Jamboree: Social interaction and outreach among Scouts from different cultures is a hallmark of the Jamboree experience, in a warmly embracing atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. The World Scout Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world's young people to promote peace, mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. The World Scout Jamboree includes a wide variety of outdoor adventure activities and exhibits in a camping environment.

The 24th World Scout Jamboree - co-hosts (Scouts Canada, Scouts De Mexico and the Boys Scouts of America) were selected by the 2011 World Scout Conference, which is the governing body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. The three co-hosting National Scout Organizations some years ago created a legal entity, NewWorld19, for purposes of organizing the planning and hosting the WSJ.

The World Scout Jamboree is all about the meeting of people and cultures, and on Cultural Celebration Day, Friday 26 July, the jamboree site will be even more vibrant as participants will have an opportunity to experience food, dance and other activities from all over the world. All units will focus on sharing their own culture and experience others culture, too.

In each subcamp, units are encouraged to share their culture including music, dance, costumes, games, and food within their campsites. One of the possible ways to share your culture at the Jamboree is by sharing food, especially dishes of your homeland. Consider wearing colorful national costumes, sharing stories, songs, and art from your home, or displaying cultural or historic items that tell the story of where you come from.

Capping off a day of cultural celebrations, the Unity Show invites participants of the jamboree to unlock the secrets of bringing different people together for a common purpose. Respect, openness, and the courage to share with one another our personal and sacred stories will be put into practice and culminate in a cherished sense of fellowship often felt when gathered around the campfire.

Everyone knows that Camp Life is at the heart of the Jamboree experience! And indeed, both participants and International Service Team have lots of reasons to be excited about their time beyond daily adventure activities. Here is just a taste of what to expect in camp, this summer:

Participants will be camped in five basecamps with 19 subcamps across the World Scout Jamboree site. Each one will have a vibrant camp culture, with activities, games, athletic spaces, contests, and stage events. 1ST will organize some of these activities, but much of the fun will be open and free to participants at any time!

The theme of the 24th World Scout Jamboree is "Unlock a New World". With this in mind, we will be incorporating World Heritage Sites in the names of Base Camps and Subcamps. A World Heritage site is a landmark or area which is selected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance, and is legally protected by international treaties. The sites are judged important to the collective interests of humanity.

The Base Camps are named with letters beginning A through F to coincide with the Summit naming of Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo and Foxtrot. Using this format, a list of World Heritage Site names beginning with the letters A through F have been selected. More information on World Heritage Sites can be found at https://whc.unesco.org/.
